Does air have volume?

In this lab, my partner and i were trying to figure out if air has volume.

We used many materials to complete this lab. These materials included a paper cup, a crumbled up piece of paper, and a glass beaker.

The procedure was that we crumbled up a piece of paper and placed it in the bottom of the paper cup. Then we submerged the cup in the water to see whether it would float or not. We repeated this steps a few times.

What we observed was fascinating. The paper was not wet when we submerged the cup in the beginning, but after we poked a hole in the cup, the crumbled paper began to get wet.

In the end, my hypothesis turned out to be correct. i had a feeling that the paper inside the cup was not going to get wet. And after we punched a hole in the cup, the paper did get wet. I have reason to believe that air has volume.
